Draw tens. Count in tens. Think about 3+6 

35 + 42 =

Draw tens and ones. How many altogether? 

5 + 7 + 5 + 2 =

Find pairs that make 10. (draw dots if it helps) 

66 – 23 =

Draw 66 in tens and ones . Cross of 23. What’s left? 

18 – 2 – 4 =

Draw 18 in tens and ones. Cross off 2 then 4. 

32 + ♦ = 39

Count on. How many more to make 39? 

85 = ♦ + 5

Draw 85 with tens and ones 

9 X 10 =

9 lots of 10. Count in tens 9 times. 

6 X 5 =

6 lots of 5. Count in fives 6 times 

15 ÷ 3 =

15 shared into 3 equal groups. Or How many 3s in 15? Draw 3 circles and share 15 between them. 

10 ÷ 2 =

10 shared into 2 groups. Or how many 2s in 10?
