►Reading

Please read with your child for 20 minutes each day. This could be a story book which you read, a phonics book which they read or a mixture of the two.

Oxford Owl have a library of free books which can be read on a phone or tablet.

Follow the link below and sign up yourself. You can then access a variety of books which are age-appropriate. Start on age 3-4 (Oxford Level 1) and work your way through as your child gets more confident.

►Phonics

Today we are working on our comprehension skills. We will be using our phonics to decode words or sentences and show understanding.

Blue challenge: collect the following items from around your house and place them on the table in front of your child. Sound out the words and ask them to point at the correct item. You may want to repeat this a few times. Once they are confident, point to an item and ask them to robot the word.

Green challenge: print the first page of the Green Challenge document below and ask your child to read the sentences and tick the correct picture. If they need any help, remind them to sound out the words and possibly support with any sight words which they can't sound out or remind them of any sounds that they don't recognise. If you do not have a printer, write the sentences for your child to write and then ask them to draw pictures to display their understanding.

Purple challenge: print the first page of the Purple challenge document below and ask your child to read the sentences and draw lines to match the pictures and captions. If they need any help, remind them to sound out the words and possibly support with any sight words which they can't sound out or remind them of any sounds that they don't recognise. If you do not have a printer, write the sentences for your child to write and then ask them to draw pictures to display their understanding.

►Topic

Today we are starting our week of learning around the North and South Pole. Today we are focussing on Polar Bears.

Watch the video below and then complete one of the following activities.

Blue challenge: create a fact file page about polar bears based on what your child has learnt from the video.

Ask them to draw a picture of a polar bear and then tell you key facts to write. They could then copy or trace over the facts in their own writing.

Green challenge: create a fact file page about polar bears based on what your child has learnt from the video. Ask them to draw a picture of a polar bear and tell you key facts. Then help them to sound out a sentence independently.

Purple challenge: show your child how to find images on Google Images to include in their fact file. Allow them to choose some images which will help with their fact file and then print them before asking your child to sound out and write some key facts in sentences.
