Good Morning Year 1!
I can't believe we are in May already, this year is going so quickly! I can not wait to see the amazing learning you do this month.
I hope you all had a fabulous day yesterday and managed to complete some super work with your grown-ups. The updates I have received from you all so far have gone in a super picture gallery so look out for your pictures there! Keep up the amazing work!
Yesterday whilst I was doing some jobs around the house, I caught George having a sneaky peek at the Year 1 class page and looking at all your amazing updates from yesterday. Here is a picture of the sneaky giraffe.
Morning work: Today you are going to be doing some problem-solving. You do not need to write anything down if you do not wish to. Look at the picture below, How many triangles can you see in the picture?
Hint: There are probably more than you think, look closely. There are big triangles and little ones.
Phonics: In your phonics buster books please complete page 21 about vowel digraphs and trigraphs.
Remember a digraph is two letters making a sound and a trigraph is three letters making a sound.
I would also like you to practice some tricky sight words today, these can be found in the video below. Can you join in with the video and write a few of them down in your yellow books.
There are some great interactive games on the phonics play website for children to play and revise their phonetic skills. Currently, the website is free for parents to sign up to if you log in using the user name: march 20 and the password: home.

You could also play some different phonics games at: http://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/literacy.html
English: Today we are going to still think about the story of the 'Tiny seed' but focus on the seasons that were in the story. As you have been doing some amazing writing recently I thought you needed a break from this and would enjoy some drama instead. Today we are going to be accessing Now Press Play from home and thinking about the seasons.
To access this you need to go to: http://nowpressplay.co.uk/learn-at-home/
Once on the webpage you will be asked for a password it is: nowpressplay
When you have logged in, please select Years 1-2, and select science (it is a blue coloured tab) then you will see the topic of seasons appear down the left side. Click this to display today's lesson. Then when you are ready play the clip by pressing the pink play button. It should look like this:
Have fun!
Reading: Make sure you read a book today or have a grown-up read you a story. If you have read all your reading books from school, you can read some of the phonetically decodable comics online. These can be found at www.phonicsplaycomics.co.uk.
Also, David Walliams (A well-known children's author) has given you the opportunity every day to receive a short audiobook from his collection of short stories from his book 'The World’s Worst Children!' You can access these at: https://www.worldofdavidwalliams.com/elevenses/
New stories are avaliable after 11am every day, or you can listen to ones from the day before if you wish.
Try and remember to record all of your reading in your diary so that we can see how much reading you have done when we come back to school. I can't wait to see how much reading you have done at home!
Maths:
In maths today we are going to have a flash back friday, this is something we do most Friday's where we test the skills and knowledge we have learnt so far throughout the year. I have got 3 mats for you covering lots of different maths topics, they are of varying difficulty with simliar questions, so you can choose which to suit you and not complete all 3.
In your yellow books can you answer the following questions:
Show and tell: On Fridays in Year 1 after lunch we do show and tell to help improve our listening and speaking skills. This week, I would love you to send me an email telling me some of the things you have been doing and send me some pictures of you completing your work or enjoying the sunshine. I look forward to hearing all about your week!
Remember my Email is emartin@thythornfield.leics.sch.uk
Golden Time! - On a Friday afternoon in Year 1 we have GOLDEN TIME!
I think you will agree with me when I say that this week (just like last week) has been very different to the normal weeks at school, but more than ever I think you have deserved your golden time. Play, be creative, make things, dress up, tell jokes and let your imagination run wild...You are amazing Year 1 and I am proud to be your teacher!
End of the day story: The story I have chosen today is one that we have not read before in class. it is called 'Whoops, but it wasn't me!' it is a Charlie and Lola book, written by Lauren Child.
