This week we are going to learn about famous artists and their artwork from days gone by to modern times.
We will explore:
THE STYLES OF EXPRESSIONISM AND IMPRESSIONISM
In both styles of painting the paintings are based on the real world, Impressionists paint the scene as if they had only glanced at it for a moment (and got a quick impression of it). Expressionism is directly focused on the emotional response of the artist to the real world, using odd sizes, odd angles, and painted in vivid and intense colours (the painting gives a sense of how the scene made the artist feel).
MEET VINCENT VAN GOGH
ACTIVITY 1 - art appreciation
We all take something away from viewing a piece of art - a thought, an idea, a memory, wonder... and what we take away may be different to somebody else.
Click below to look at, study and appreciate 2 works of art by two impressionists and expressionists: Van Gogh and Monet. Look at the pictures and answer the questions in your exercise book.
ACTIVITY 2 - create an impressionist/expressionist painting
We can use very clever tools in Purple Mash to do this.
Below are two paintings by Vincent Van Gogh and Edward Munch you could copy or create your own.
Click below for a video showing you how to do it in Purple Mash.
Listening to someone read a story is a great way to relax and unwind.
We are lucky that, at the moment, we have some fantastic stories being read by famous people and excellent story-tellers that are wonderful to enjoy.
