Good Morning Year 1 laugh

I hope you all had a fabulous weekend and have recharged your brains ready for another busy week of home learning. This week is week 5 of our home learning (it's going so fast!) and I want you all to continue to work hard at home (or in school) for your grown-ups. The updates I have received from you all have been super and I am loving the updates you are adding to your SEESAW accounts. Remember to look at the class blog on SEESAW so you can see what your friends have been up to.

Tomorrow Miss Martin will be holding a 'help me' Zoom session 11-11.45 and the topic for this zoom session is going to be phonics. If you need help with a particular sound or would like to recap some sounds, please pop along. Remember if you do not need any help you do not have to attend the session. Miss Martin will speak to you one at a time so she can help you the best she can which means if you try to join the meeting and someone is already with her, you may need to wait for a little while.

► MORNING WORK

BLUE WORK - back 1 step challenge

GREEN WORK - regular challenge

PURPLE WORK - forward 1 step challenge

These levels of differentiation, for some pieces of learning, will ensure that your child can access teaching and learning that is pitched correctly for them. If you are not sure which colour to do then please email your teacher.

► PHONICS

In the video Miss Martin and George will introduce you to a new phase 5 sound each day and re-cap the phase 3 and 4 flashcards. For the lesson you will need either a whiteboard and pen or a piece of paper an a pen or pencil. Enjoy! laugh

► ENGLISH

In English this week we are going to be looking at a story all about a train ride. You will recognise this story as it is one Miss Martin read to you a few weeks ago. This story fits in very nicely with our topic because it is about another land transport and this week we are going to be looking at hte invention of trains and someone called George Stephenson. Today Miss Martin would like you to watch the below reading of the story of the train ride and using the story cards sequence them into the right order and talk about the story with your grown-up.

►ASSEMBLY ABOUT CHILDRENS MENTAL HEALTH WEEK

We’ve teamed up with BAFTA Kids and Oak National Academy to create a free assembly featuring pupils and well known-faces discussing the theme of ‘Express Yourself’.

Hosted by Blue Peter’s Lindsey Russell, and CBBC Presenter and Place2Be Champion Rhys Stephenson, the assembly is a great way to help children to explore the creative ways they can share their thoughts and feelings.

The assembly features pupils from Featherstone Primary School, and special guests:

  • Sharna Jackson, award-winning author
  • Nikki Lilly, Youtuber and campaigner
  • Matthew Lewis, actor
  • Plus a special message from Doctor Who star, Jodie Whittaker.

The assembly is 25 minutes long. For younger children, you may wish to pause and discuss the themes to break up the length.

Here are some suggested discussion points and things to try at home or in class:

  1. 08:04: How do you like to express yourself creatively? How does it make you feel?
  2. 09:24: If you could design your own hat (or other item of clothing) to express yourself, what would it be like and why?
  3. 16:08: Why not have a go at your own Draw your Feelings activity? Check out our 2 minute demo video.
  4. 19:41: If you had magical powers, what spell would you cast for Children’s Mental Health Week?
  5. 23:44: Could you have a go at the BAFTA Young Presenter competition? Find out more.
