YEAR 6 SPELLING

SPELLING TEST

Last Monday you may have created a list of words to spell. I reminded you each day last week to practise them. Now would be a good time to ask a grown-up to test you on your spelling list. How did you do?

SPELLING PRACTICE

It is important that we learn to spell well and grow the vocabulary that we can use and spell. Each week we will practise our spelling.

Firstly let's check the basic lists that we are expected to learn. Look at these lists - Start with List 1 as you need to know all these first, then List 2 as you need to know all these next, then List 3 and so on. As you start to look make a personal list of 8 words that you know you need to learn to spell. As soon as you have 8 words on your personal list STOP looking. Make these the first 8 words to learn for this week.

Think about ways you could learn these e.g:

  • make flash cards
  • stick the words up somewhere
  • practise look, cover, write, check
  • write them in sentences
  • make a doodle out of the word
  • get a grown-up to test you each day

SPELLING RULES and PATTERNS
