THUR 21/5

>OUR DIFFERENT KIND OF DAY

What a special day yesterday was laugh

We took some time out of the busy roller-coaster of life we are on to do what we needed to do to help us feel a bit better. We also reached out with kindness to other people.

I forwarded on 13 emails and 9 audio clips from friends to another friend, I spoke to 10 people who asked me to call for a chat, I heard about people writing letters to care homes and sending letters in the post to their friends. I heard about people chilling out and people catching up on things. It was so so lovely to know that Year 5 spent time on mental health. I am proud of you.

>ENGLISH - modal verbs

Using modal verbs in your writing can help the person reading your work to understand if the action you are writing about is either possible or impossible, needed permission or had to be done.

Step 2

Let's check we understand:

Modal verbs

  • Give permission (can, may).

Examples

  • The Sea Monster must go away.
  • We should celebrate the work of our healthcare heroes.

>ART - camouflage

Think about animals that use camouflage. What is is about them that makes them camouflaged?

It is a mixture of pattern and colour.

Today let's create a camouflage picture:

IDEA 1

You will need

  • A plain piece of paper
  • A magazine or catalogue or old book that you can cut a picture out of
  • Scissors
  • Glue or pritt stick
  • Coloured pens or felt tips or markers or pencils or crayons

What to do

  1. Find a picture of something that has pattern on it
  2. Cut it out in a nice bubbly shape
  3. Stick it in the middle of your piece of plain paper
  4. Look at the pattern on the picture - can you start to create similar patterns around it with your colours - growing outwards towards the edges of the page so that the cutting slowly disappears into the background....

IDEA 2

You will need:

  • plain paper
  • a pencil
  • chalks or pastels or crayons or felt tips or pencil crayons

To do:

  1. In the centre of your paper draw an animal - maybe a fish, a lizard or a turtle
  2. Colour it in with a pattern and outline it
  3. Now take its pattern and repeat it around the paper to help your animal disappear into the camouflage... see below for inspiration

Don't forget to send me a picture laugh

>PE

Thursday is our PE day.
Exercise we know is good for our bodies. As it is mental health awareness week let's see if we can look after our minds too at the same time.

Maybe you could...

1. Go for a walk or bike ride and listen....
Can you hear: voices, different vehicles, any animals, other machines, the wind in the leaves, anything else?

2. Play at the park or in your garden...

Just exercise and get hot and out of breath because you love that feeling

3. Dance...

Because you love it. Maybe make up your own, practise a routine or do one of the fun ones below...

4. Meditate...

Calm your mind and body and relax using the video below...
