►Reading

Please read with your child for 20 minutes each day. This could be a story book which you read, a phonics book which they read or a mixture of the two.

Oxford Owl have a library of free books which can be read on a phone or tablet.

Follow the link below and sign up yourself. You can then access a variety of books which are age-appropriate. Start on age 3-4 (Oxford Level 1) and work your way through as your child gets more confident.

Safer Internet Day 2021

Today is Safer Internet Day and this year's focus is 'An internet we trust: exploring reliability in the online world'.

I have attached some videos below which highlight how it can sometimes be easy to find false information on the internet.

Talk to your child about internet safety and why it is important. Some topics to discuss could be:

  • do not access any websites without your parents' permission
  • do not speak to anybody on the internet that you do not know
  • do not share your details with anybody on the internet

►PE Challenge

Today we are doing a PE challenge. This is something that the whole school will be doing this week. I have attached details below and you can even print out a certificate for your child if they take part.

I look forward to seeing pictures and videos of your children taking part.

►Phonics

Today we will be learning the 'y' sound.

Please watch the lesson video below and ask your child to practise writing 'y' ten times at least until they are confident. Ensure that you provide lined paper so that your child can try to form the letters on the line.

Blue challenge: provide your child with magnets or individual letters written on paper for each of the words below in turn and ask them to sound the word out and then arrange the letters to create the word.

yum

yak

yell

yam

yo-yo

yoga

Green challenge: ask your child to sound out the words below and then write them on lined paper.

Purple challengeask your child to use their understanding of sight words and sounding out to write these sentences.

I like to yell on a yak.

The yam is big and orange. (orinj or another phonetically correct spelling for orange is perfectly acceptable.)

►Maths

Today we are recalling one more by playing a game.

First, practice counting forwards and backwards from 0-10.

Blue and green challenge: print out the 0-10 bingo cards below (only pages 1-5 re needed) and play a game with your child where you call out "One more than ____" (any number up to 10). You child identifies the correct number and sees if they have the one more number on their bingo card. You could repeat this game a few times. Once your child is confident, play the game again but your child is the caller and gives you numbers to add one more to. Keep making mistakes so that they can correct you.

Purple challenge: print out the 0-20 bingo cards below (only pages 1-5 re needed) and play a game with your child where you call out "One more than ____" (any number up to 20). You child identifies the correct number and sees if they have the one more number on their bingo card. You could repeat this game a few times. Once your child is confident, play the game again but your child is the caller and gives you numbers to add one more to. Keep making mistakes so that they can correct you.
