Year 3 is an important transition year for our children, moving from KS1 to KS2, with new expectations and challenges!
Please see below for information about our curriculum and expectations.
Year 3 have delved back into Prehistoric times this term, learning about Stone Age hunter gatherers and how they would live. Now we have moved forward to discover about our Bronze Age ancestors; with the children already showing expertise in how to make a Bronze Age axe head, in their explanation writing. Having learnt all about our skeletal system last half term, Year 3 are now enjoying investigating light in Science. This week they used their outdoor environment to try to answer the question; ‘how does light affect leaves from trees?’ They observed the colour variation and found out about how the leaves are affected by changes in sunlight time from Summer to Autumn. Maths learning so far this term has proven to be very positive, with the children showing a keen approach to learning times tables and competing against others! They are working hard to develop maths talk and conversations to improve their reasoning of maths problems. The children are looking forward to their DT project to sample, plan, make and eat their own sandwiches. As well as PE every Tuesday with Mr Clarke, year 3 will join year 1 on November 5th to start their swimming lessons. We will also be starting a Roald Dahl reading focus soon and would love the children to share any favourite books by this famous author. Keep up the excellent work Year 3!
