Worldviews and Religious Education:

Today in RE, we are going to debate and justify our point of view:

1. Why do some people believe in God and others do not? Discuss this with an adult.

Record your ideas in your book or on paper if at home.

2. In the last lesson we learnt about agnostics. Can you clarify the definition of: a theist?

What does this mean to you?

3. How many different Gods are there? List as many different names and metaphors as you can.

Why are there so many different names? Which religions or faiths do they represent?

What do Christians believe God is like?

Is God real? What tells you this?

Who is this God?

What kind of God are we talking about? What kind of God are we not talking about?

Are there any witnesses for this God? Can I trust them?

Are there any witnesses against this God?

4. Create a wanted poster for God- it might be tricky to draw God so what would your description say?

What is this God like?

Draw images that you feel represent God.

5. Share your thoughts with a partner first and then record, in any format you wish, regarding this point of view: 'God cannot be all powerful and all-loving if the world is like this – full of suffering.'

6. Partner work: write a series of statements about what God is NOT like. Collect them all together.

Do these descriptions about what God is NOT like help to make more sense of what Christians think God is like? Why?
